The “Azur” itinerary for the Côtes du Rhône wines:
In the 14th century, Avignon was the capital of Christianity, and many buildings in and around Avignon remain from that prestigious period. On this “Azur” itinerary, you will encounter many of them, from the impressive Palace of the Popes, the famous Avignon bridge (Pont Saint Bénézet), the ramparts, in superb conditions, the many churches and chapels which are true architectural jewels. Today, Avignon is the capital of the Côtes du Rhône wines, and is home to a thriving theater festival. This itinerary also takes you to Châteauneuf du Pape where the popes had their summer residence, and to Châteauneuf de Gadagne where Frédéric Mistral inspired the revival of the Provencal language and literature.
