PAPALINE: The Papaline was created in 1960, and named after the Avignon Popes. It forms a small thistle, made of 2 thin layers of chocolate which are filled with the Comtat liqueur made of oregano. The recipe for this herbal liqueur remains a secret. The liqueur was created in 1870, and is made from plants which have been macerated in a selection of fine spirits. They are then distilled, and excellent quality honey is added.

Did you know ?
In 1884, a plague of cholera hit the city of Avignon. To fight against the epidemic, an alcohol-based rub was devised with rum and oregano from the Comtat Venaissin. The oregano quickly revealed its therapeutic properties and was used for many other purposes. Today the mixture fills the lovely Papaline candies. |
